Jewell Loewen

Registered Psychologist

I am a Registered Provisional Psychologist supervised by Kimberly Eckert, R. Psych., as well as a trained Art Therapist. I completed my Master of Arts in Creative Arts Therapies at Concordia University, and my Master of Science in Counselling Psychology at the University of Calgary. I have worked in a wide variety of treatment settings, such as community-based programs, mental health clinics, and tertiary care hospitals, including the Jewish General Hospital, the Montreal Children’s Hospital, and the Alberta Children’s Hospital.

Recognizing that every individual is one-of-a-kind, I approach counselling from an integrative perspective, which is tailored to fit client’s specific goals and preferences. My work is grounded in Attachment, Person-Centered, Cognitive Behavioural, and Mindfulness-based approaches. I also incorporate Art Therapy and other interactive strategies when appropriate, creating a therapeutic environment that is warm, engaging, and effective for my clients.

What inspires you?

My clients are superheroes! Even when they face major roadblocks, I have witnessed their commitment to moving forward with such strength and perseverance. It is continually humbling to be able to join them on parts of this journey. I am also inspired by my faith, which grounds my belief in each person’s innate worth and unique potential in this world.

What are your proudest accomplishments?

A personal accomplishment was hiking the West Coast Trail last spring, particularly because this trip followed some pretty significant health challenges. I was especially grateful that my dear husband shared the load (and the snacks). Professionally, I have been delighted to study, research, and practice what I love. It is such a great privilege.

What are your Hobbies and Interests?

My favourite thing to do is spend time with my family, friends, and church community. If that happens to be in the mountains, a museum, or favourite bakery, even better! I’m also an art enthusiast, and find pleasure in creating my own work, as well as enjoying the work of local artists, poets, and musicians.

Why do you think people should choose Eckert Centre?

Eckert Centre offers top-notch, evidence-based services in assessment, counselling, and cognitive coaching. It is wonderful to have these options integrated under one roof, allowing clients to meet their goals more effectively. But beyond the services and structure, it is the heart that lies behind this work that is truly exceptional. Eckert Centre’s team is comprised of some of the most genuine, compassionate, and skilled individuals that I have had the pleasure of meeting.
